Hiking for Normal People

Hiking for normal people. I'm extremely normal. What's normal? I don't know, but I'm it. I am unremarkable. You are probably unremarkable. This hiking blog is for us! I'm an actor and I live in LA. You don't know who I am, so that means I'm broke. What can you do if you have no money and no car? You walk your ass around. AND HIKING IS JUST WALKING ON DIRT!

Let me rewind a bit. I moved to Alaska for 5 months in 2016. Before then, I could count on my hands the amount of hikes I'd done. But I knew I would be hiking because it's Alaska and all there is to do is drink beer and hike. So I spent $300 on a pair of  hiking boots (this is too much money. you don't have to spend this much money. I will talk about this later) and I flew to Alaska. I started on trails in the park and made some friends who knew some great hikes and we had the same day off, which is all you need.  So we started a hiking group and by the end of the summer I was leading my own summits on unmarked trails that started in the parking lot behind the lodge across the street from the resort where I was performing. Did that sentence get you out of breath? Welcome to hiking.

Sugarloaf Mountain Summit June 1, 2016

I knew I was moving to Los Angeles shortly after the end of my contract. I knew there would be more opportunities to hike but I didn't know it would be to the extent it was. I knew the weather would be good, but I didn't know it would be ideal hiking weather basically every day of the year.  I started with Runyon Canyon (LAME) and I worked my way up to Mt. Whitney (the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States).

Mt. Whitney Summit July 9, 2019

I am starting this blog to simplify hiking and give recs that normal people can relate to. Five hikes to take your mom on when she's visiting. Five hikes that have a place to get a beer after. Five pieces of gear you need and five pieces you don't need.  These blogs are primarily aimed toward hiking in Southern California. I truly believe hiking is for everyone. Why not start a hobby that you can do until you die? THIS IS TRULY INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE.
